Contaminants of Emerging Concern are considered pollutants that are not currently considered by existing environmental-quality regulations, are thought to be potential threats to human health and environmental ecosystems or have not been studied previously.
One may assume that emerging pollutants will be a permanent research topic as new chemical compounds are continuously being produced while science improves its knowledge of the existing ones.
Therefore, it is necessary to keep abreast of the different research lines that are being developed to study this type of pollutants. The Cartographic viewer on Contaminants of Emerging Concern is developed with the aim of giving visibility to different research groups and institutions that presently are working with emerging contaminants.
